Respectfully, I find Matt yglesias to be a tit who talks more than he listens, is unlikely to know where his food comes from, and knows little about science, or the natural environment. I won't get over a billion people in the US. Welcome water shortages! Woohoo.
I do not. In fact it is an opportunity to explore a very common attitude toward Yglesias. __I_ disagree with Yeglesias a lot, but I sense that a lot of antagonism toward him does not arise from policy disagreements.
It's not antagonism per se. But a general condescension/hubris about his opinions. It's just not something I've experienced as a polite Canadian, researcher, or even the kind of misogyny that comes out of my own community.
It's like a distasteful, passive aggressive, elitist superiority that's completely unwarranted?
I tried to give him a fair shot by reading his articles and listening to a few podcasts but, it's a hard NO.
I find it more prevalent in the US and I really dislike it. Perhaps its the outrage porn that gets clicks.
Persuasion/logic is much more preferable to me than belittling. He has some good points but time is precious.
BTW in doing the cost-benefit analysis of adding 650 addional US citizens, I would not put water shortages (even without needed reforms in water pricing) high on the lost of costs)

I hope you don't hold this against me Thomas. 🙏

De gustibus non disputandum est. :)
